Trenton Police Director Sheilah A. Coley, a 30-year law enforcement veteran, debuted a weekly call-in radio show on WBCB 1490 AM radio. Police and Community with Trenton Police Director Sheilah Coley launched on July 21, 2020 and features Jeannine LaRue, creator of the popular Facebook blog LaRuelist Cafe, as host of the seven-week segment.
Sponsored in part by economic development organization Greater Trenton and Case Pork Roll, the next shows will air at 5 p.m. on July 28, August 4, 11, 18, 25 and September 1. Interested individuals should take this opportunity seriously, as the functionality of the police department is something that affects all Trenton residents the same.
While a plethora of information will be addressed, it is up to the residents of Trenton to utilize this opportunity and make the most out of it, especially if there are widespread concerns or questions that need to be addressed. Director Coley will be answering questions from listeners, who can call into the show at (215) 949-3232.
“This is an important opportunity for Trenton PD to connect with residents,” said Director Coley. “Now more than ever we need to strengthen police-community communications and deepen our connections with residents and community leaders. This form of community-oriented policing will allow residents living in Trenton to address their concerns, ask important questions and challenge decisions made by police departments up until this time. This is an important step that is necessary to build trust between the community and those who protect it day to day.”
The Trenton Police Department’s community-oriented policing methodology is a step in the right direction. Given the stigmas surrounding police during this unprecedented period of history, connecting with the community is something that needs to be done in order to regain the bond between the citizens and the police department. The symposium for the Latino community (an initiative brought about by Coley) in tandem with this call-in radio show are sure to give the Trenton Police Department answers and insight into the minds of the community at large.
While the show will broadcast live, listeners can also download the TuneIn app on their smartphones to listen to the broadcast. Additionally, listeners can stream the broadcast through the radio station’s website at wbcb1490.com.
